So both power pins likely shorted giving the full light show and letting all the magic smoke loose. Pinout is: Ground / Power / Adapter Sense / Power / Ground Almost as if a staple or something had shorted the three pins. It looks like there might have been a short across the middle three pins and caused a small fireworks show that left heavy residue around those three pins on the charger and around the edge of the connector on the laptop. I don't think almost is a strong enough term.
